A new approach for the synthesis of indoles and related heterocycles

We have recently developed a conceptually new strategy for the synthesis of indoles and related heterocycles utilizing alpha-anilino amino acids. These versatile intermediates are available via several methods, including our one-step three-component condensation between amines, aldehydes and organoboron compounds. Herein we will report several new aspects of this methodology, including the synthesis of a variety of key intermediates utilizing nitrile building bloks and various heterocyclic starting materials. The synthesis of novel multi-substituted indoles and other heterocycles will be reported.
