Unique photophysical properties and reactivity of phenylacetylene derivatives containing the B-N bond pair

Diphenylacetylene (tolan) is an important building block in several areas of chemistry. We have prepared two tolan derivatives via replacement of one or both phenyl rings in tolan with the isosteric 1,2-dihydro-1,2-azaborine ring. B-N incorporation alters the optoelectronic properties of these conjugated organic scaffolds. The synthesis, characterization, and reactivity studies of our compounds will be discussed, with particular focus on photophysical properties.
