Synthesis and applications of chiral phosphinines

The synthesis of the first C2 chiral pyrylium salt and phosphinine (phosphabenzene) are reported. The chiral phosphinine is shown to effectively form complexes with metals, and preliminary results of the use of the phosphinine as a ligand for asymmetric catalysis is reported.
