Following brief reflections on the early days of the field of ‘reaction dynamics', as well as its impact on technology and society, the speaker will give instances in which, today, Scanning Tunneling Microscopy reveals the molecular motions in reactions at surfaces, studied a-molecule-at-a-time. Since these reactions tend to be highly-localized, they offer a means to the maskless imprinting of nano-patterns and hence point the way to further technological innovation.
