The student affiliate's chapter at Georgia Southern University is continuing to set an example for excellence on campus and in the community. Projects such as Habitat for Humanity, Relay for Life, and after-school programs help our chapter to encourage involvement in sciences while volunteering for a good cause. This year the chapter expanded its participation in the after-school program into high school classrooms. The chapter has been awarded a Community Interactions Student Affiliates (CISA) grant for the 2007-2008 school year which will be used to improve the after-school programs. The chapter also encourages students to present poster presentations at local and national ACS meetings. The number of students that attend meetings is steadily increasing, largely due to the faculty involvement as well as campus outreach, and having a meaningful purpose for hosting meetings. Speakers include faculty from a variety of science disciplines and community leaders who offer the members of SAACS opportunities for research and future careers. With the chapter's persisting motivation to serve the campus of Georgia Southern University and the community of Statesboro, SAACS will continue to promote the field of chemistry in an enjoyable and informational manner.
