Shape-selective methylation of toluene with methanol was carried out in a fixed bed reactor over modified Nano-scale HZSM-5 (Si/Al=26.0) zeolite catalysts, and the effect of the reaction conditions on the catalytic properties was investigated by orthogonal tests contained three factors and three levels, in which three factors consist of temperature, H2O/ (T+M) and H2/ (T+M). The temperature varied from 400 °C to 460 °C, the toluene: methanol ( molar ratio )is 2:1, H2O/ (T+M) 4 to 10, and H2/ (T+M) 2 to 8.The results of orthogonal tests indicate that reaction conditions are of importance to the methylation of toluene.
