| The Clean Air Mercury Rule (CAMR), issued in 2005 by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, requiring coal-fired power plants to reduce their mercury emissions by approximately 20% beginning in 2010. Numerous states are already requiring swifter and higher mercury reduction levels than what is federally required. For the majority of the coal-fired power plants, the leading technology to comply with the new mercury regulations is activated carbon injection (ACI). A family of PAC-based brominated mercury sorbents has been developed and is commercially manufactured by Sorbent Technologies. They have been tested in numerous full-scale power plants trails. The summary of the test results from these trials is presented in this paper. |
