National Chemistry Week (NCW) is when chemists commemorate the passion for chemistry. At the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez Campus, the preparations started months before the celebration. The ACS-Student Chapter organized many activities to demonstrate what chemistry is all about. The objective of the NCW is to educate students of all ages about the opportunities offered by chemistry as a career. To reach that goal, several activities were organized. One activity was the Chemistry Festival, where, along with other student chapters, demonstrations and exhibitions were performed for the public. An “Open House”, conferences, tables of information and activities like “Be a Crazy Chemist” day were also offered. This year, the NCW concluded with the official initiation of new members, where they shared with friends, family and professors. In conclusion, NCW is the week when the ACS, as a scientific community, celebrates what keeps us together: CHEMISTRY.
