Many chemical education research faculty members have expressed the concern that their efforts to gain tenure and promotion are often very different than those of their ‘regular' chemistry colleagues. As a person who has successfully endured the tenure and promotion processes at two different universities and has viewed the tenure and promotion process of other chemistry colleagues, it has been my experience that many of the issues facing chemical education research faculty are also faced by their ‘traditional' counterparts. In this talk, I will elaborate on this claim, providing examples and advice for chemistry education research faculty members looking at the tenure and/or promotion process.
