In a series of posters, we have shown how pictograms can be used to lead students through otherwise complex instructions when completing chemical separation and identification of ions in Groups I through V in qualitative analysis. In this poster, we present some statistical data gathered from groups of about twenty-five students, each using this aid, and similar groups not using it to show how the use of pictograms results in fewer student errors when determining the individual items in Groups I through III.
