Student attitudes toward science and students'self-perceived ability to be successful in science were studied in a preparatory chemistry course that incorporated the Process-Oriented Guided Inquiry (POGIL) approach. Data was collected over four semesters in classes in which the format of the class ranged from lecture-only to POGIL only. We will discuss how the student attitudes are affected, student persistence, and the faculty's perception of student performance.
