Midcourse corrections: Using mid-semester evaluations to make changes in teaching and learning organic chemistry

CHED 103

W. Gary Hollis Jr., hollis@roanoke.edu, Department of Chemistry, Roanoke College, 221 College Lane, Salem, VA 24153
At midterm, students in a first semester organic chemistry course complete an informal evaluation of their performance in the course so far. They reflect on their approach to the course and identify two changes they will make to improve their performance in the remainder of the course. Additionally, the students evaluate the course instruction and structure to suggest changes that they believe will help them better learn the material. The results of this evaluation and the alterations made will be presented. The effectiveness of this technique as a teaching and learning tool will be discussed.
