| A series of 3,6-diphenylmethyl-2,5-diamino-1,4-quinone compounds are being prepared in order to evaluate their potential as organic ligands in magnetic materials. These ligands are structurally analogous to 2,5-dihydroxy-1,4-benzoquinone with two metal binding sites. When reduced to the diradical anions and coordinated to spin bearing metals, they can potentially propagate electronic coupling in two and three dimensions. The amino groups being evaluated in this work are substituted anilines. From previous work, it was determined that substitution of electron donating groups at the 3 and 6 positions would stabilize the desired singlet state of the organic radical. Anilino groups at the 2 and 5 positions offer another site to tune the electronic properties of the ligands. The synthesis of these ligands, along with preliminary information on their electronic properties of the reduced species, will be presented. |
