The American Chemical Society Student Affiliates at Juniata College strive to promote chemistry on campus and throughout the surrounding community. Over the past several years our chapter has received recognition from the ACS. Referred to as Chem Club on campus, the group coordinates field trips to nearby companies and universities, supports trips to national chemistry conferences, manages an informational website, and organizes a seminar series. For the first time this year, a retreat to a local lodge was organized during the fall semester to encourage build friendships amongst students and faculty. In the realm of outreach, the Chem Club celebrates National Chemistry Week by hosting student seminars on their research and doing various demonstrations for the community. The club also holds an annual “Chem Camp” for elementary and middle school students. This popular event allows children from the community to gain knowledge of chemistry through an assortment of hands-on experiments.
