The University of Tennessee at Martin chapter has been recognized as Green Chapter every year since this designation was initiated. The chapter received five Innovative Activities Grants for green chemistry projects dealing biodiesel, biodegradable and recyclable polymers, hydrogen peroxide as green reagent, green chemistry 101, etc. The chapter was involved with the local - Kentucky Lake, Nashville and Memphis sections of ACS in conjunction with two Innovative Projects Grants: Grass Roots Network for Greener Chemistry Education, and Industry-Academe Interaction for Green Chemistry. As a result of these activities several nationally known authorities/researchers in green chemistry have visited Northwest Tennessee. Chapter members and visitors have presented programs at the civic clubs and at high schools. Green chemistry programs have been presented at Tennessee Teachers Association meeting and related activities conducted for Earth Week. Green chemistry workshops have been conducted in conjunction with High School Science Bowls.
