Protonation of transition metal substituted heteropoly tungstates in protic and aprotic media

Various transition metals are easily substituted into heteropoly tungstate ions. Different substitutions cause slight variations in pKa as observed by potentiometric titration and cyclic voltammetry, and capillary electrophoresis. 31P NMR data suggest new species form when protonated in nonpolar solvents. These results offer valuable insight toward rational catalyst design.
