This year, the SAACS chapter at Centenary College of Louisiana has been keeping the tradition alive by holding events that reach all areas of student development including providing a social outlet, community involvement and educating others on the world of chemistry. The first program of the year was a Dippin' Dots social, in which students made ice cream with frozen nitrogen. The community outreach and education programs were conducted at Sci-Port and the Juvenile Detention Center, where student affiliates helped underprivileged and at-risk kids get involved with chemistry activities. Centenary's SAACS again held a series of events during National Chemistry Week to excite the campus about chemistry. The SAACS has partnered with the Centenary Environmental Association to initiate a plastic bottle recycling program on campus and to raise money for the Centenary's first solar panel.
