The Loras College Student ACS chapter has been very active over the past year. We have sponsored and participated in many events for the campus and local community. Funds for the club were raised by selling general chemistry laboratory notebooks, goggles, and calculators. We also held the annual Soak the Professor fundraiser which students donate money for the professor they would like to soak under the safety shower. The members of our chapter provide tutoring for general chemistry and organic chemistry students free of charge. Through a grant provided by our local ACS chapter, we were able to purchase chemicals for new demonstrations to use for community magic shows during National Chemistry Week and the rest of the academic year. We have also hosted seminars on topics ranging from "Laser Control over Photochemistry of Organic-CVD Precursors" to "Global Warming: A Perspective from Polar Ice Cores".
