Poly(vinyl alcohol) was reacted with purified N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone and chloroacetyl chloride to form a poly(ionic liquid). This polymer will be characterized and researched in the areas of CO2 sorption / desorption. The purpose of this study is to understand if the effects of how the chemical structure of the polymer will speed up the sorption / desorption property of CO2. Also the percentage of CO2 that will be absorbed and trapped into the polymer will be another aspect that is studied. The polymer is also to have fast CO2 desorption and need little energy to drive off the CO2 so the polymer can be used again for more CO2 sorption.
