In the Fall 2007 semester Xavier University's Student Affiliate Chapter of the American Chemical Society took a pledge to promote scholarship and leadership in both the Xavier community and greater New Orleans community. Undertaking three mentoring programs, this organization worked to build leaders through Chemistry Connections, an on campus mentoring program, as well as a new program designed to help rebuild Dillard University's Student Affiliate Chapter. Within the greater New Orleans community, the chapter collaborated with the Beta Tau Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. to establish a citywide science fair in which student affiliates served as mentors for the participating high school students. Through these efforts the chapter was able to encourage campus and community leadership.
