In our laboratory we are studying the effects of Copper(II) when combined with tartaric acid or acetic acid and their salts. In this study we are investigating the reactions of a strong oxidizing agent such as peroxide on these complexes. The products of these reactions are analyzed utilizing ultraviolet and visible spectroscopy (uv-vis), infrared (IR), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and gas chromatography/ mass spectrometry (GC/MS). Comparisons are made between the complexes formed with and without the oxidizing agent.
