The Kleberg Einsteins of Tomorrow (KET) program was started to introduce elementary students to chemistry. The first Wednesday of the month, members of the SAACS KET committee meet to perform chemistry experiments with 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade students. Each experiment focuses on a scientist involved in chemistry. Information is given about the scientist's life and contribution to chemistry in format that is understandable to elementary students. To acquaint students with the scientific process, students are presented with an introduction, materials, procedure, and conclusion to each experiment. Experiments are performed individually or in small groups, giving students a hands-on introduction to chemistry. Parents are encouraged to participate by volunteering or performing experiments with their children. Each year culminates with a final Chemistry Demonstration. Afterwards, awards are distributed to students to highlight their achievements throughout the year.
