What's it like to be a faculty member at a small college? How do you achieve tenure and get promoted? Springfield College is a not so small New England College (about 4000 students) that has redefined itself over the thirty four years that I have been here. We are now a comprehensive school offering bachelor, masters and doctoral degrees. As a long time department chair, I have seen the tenure and promotion process from both sides. I hope to share some perspectives and give recommendations to people considering the benefits of working at a small college.
