SEGQuim (abbreviation in Spanish for Chemistry Graduate Students Society) is a student organization from the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras Campus, created in September 2007 with the purpose of engaging Chemistry graduate students in activities of social, personal, cultural, and academic interest that would compliment the departmental curriculum. SEGQuim has a total membership of over 60 members, 71% of which are women. This Society represents the first effort of students to unite for improving their academic experience and commit to serve the community through activities held in collaboration with local ACS sections. We are currently working in organizing workshops and other activities which will contribute to the professional development of students and enhancement of interpersonal skills. The ultimate goals are to strengthen the sense of a scientist's responsibility toward the public and contribute to increase the number of competitive Masters and Doctoral students graduating from the University of Puerto Rico.
