A beginning chemical educator's path from assistant professor to associate professor and center director

This talk will discuss the experience of a beginning tenure-track chemical educator through the pre-tenure years and into the tenure and promotion process. The author is currently in the tenure and promotion process and has also been appointed the director of a regional math and science teacher education center. Included are discussion of roles in the department/college/university, challenges of not having graduate research assistants immediately, the benefits of succeeding a previous chemical educator in the department, the issues of being one of the only education specialists in a science department at the university, and observations on the tenure and promotion process from the author's standpoint.
