A hybrid format in introductory chemistry class was initially implemented as an intermediate or temporary step to a fully-online class. A hybrid format presents course materials and most class discussion on-line, but the class also meets in-person weekly to do primarily lab work. Each lab time is structured to include a brief, guided class discussion of carefully selected course materials. For instructors and many students, this hybrid format has become quite desirable. Our college now offers this method of delivery for several chemistry classes on a regular basis. It combines the benefits of a distance learning class and the traditional in-person class while at the same time, reduces the drawbacks inherent in each format. This presentation will describe in details this method of delivery and the benefits gained thereof.
