Dimeric and trimeric azacalix[4]arene precursors were synthesized in moderate yield by the condensation of an aromatic 5-chlorodibutyldiamine with 1,5-difluoro-2,4-dinitrobenzene at 85 °C and 100 °C respectively. Furthermore the unalklyated aromatic 5-chlorodiamine produced > 75% yield of similar dimeric and trimeric precursors at room temperature.
