| Having a good model is usually very helpful in the process of teacher education. Students have long been sent out to make observations in the field in an effort to benefit from modeling. Unfortunately when a student reports that a class was “poor” or “good”, teacher educators are often left to wonder what criteria, if any, students are using to make these judgements. SourceView was a project directed by Dorothy Gabel that makes it possible for pre-service teachers to observe a variety of chemistry teachers with their instructor allowing for critical analysis of teaching and often providing images that challenge students preconceived notions about good teaching. This talk reports on research done with preservice chemistry teachers and the role SourceView played in their development as teachers. |
