Our young chapter, of four years, has worked in the last years to become a Green Chapter, and we have reached it! ACS-SA's UPR-Arecibo has been recognized from its beginning as an Outstanding Chapter, the first two years; as a Commendable Chapter, the third year, and the last year 2006-2007 as an Outstanding Chapter along with a Green Chemistry Chapter Award, completing one of our major goals. During this last academic year, 2006-2007, the Chapter has sponsored activities in our university and within the community to introduce and create awareness about the importance of our environment and how with the green chemistry we can make it better. Our chapter takes the green chemistry concept to: the Boy scouts, in the merit badge of Chemistry given to them; the general community, with a green chemistry flyer and our official journal; and in our university campus, explaining the concept as speakers in the class of Environmental Control. All these efforts have guided us to receive the 2006-2007 Green Chemistry Chapter Award.
