The SAACS Chapter at Point Loma Nazarene University worked with teachers and students at Wilson Middle School, Tri-City Christian High School, and Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego, California. We developed a program including classroom demonstrations and lesson plans for Wilson Middle School, that addressed the California State Standards for eighth grade science. Topics included catalysts, acids, bases, pH, and physical and chemical changes. The program for Tri-City Christian High School included an on-campus tour and presentations about laboratory instruments and student research topics, with interactions intended to encourage further student endeavors in chemistry. We assessed the effectiveness and students' level of engagement through multiple choice questions after the lessons and demonstrations. To encourage interest in science graduate programs, a panel of graduate students came to Point Loma Nazarene University to discuss graduate programs in chemistry, biology, and biochemistry.
