The University of Central Oklahoma Chapter of the Student Affiliates of the American Chemical Society (UCO-SAACS) has continued to develop a nucleus of dedicated active members through greater cooperation between the science related organizations. The latest group of officers brought new ideas to the chapter and has resulted in more promotion of chemistry through outreach activities in the community and on campus. Along with traditional National Chemistry Week events such as Element Day and the Dunk-the-Professor fundraiser, UCO-SAACS has engaged in numerous outreach activities. These activities include: chemistry demonstrations at elementary schools, science museums and local malls; hosting a booth at downtown Edmond's Safe Trick-or-Treat event on Halloween; recruiting chemistry majors at a high school; and introducing bowling nights and picnics for more member socialization. The creation of a YouTube account, featuring such videos as sponsors preparing liquid nitrogen ice cream, has increased chapter popularity and visibility.
