Explorations in Chemistry for Elementary Education Majors is a course designed to provide pre-service teachers with enough background to deliver lessons, activities and demonstrations in their future K-8 classrooms. Our course at Cal State University is based on California State Standards. To achieve our goal of educating non science majors in chemistry, we use innovative visualization techniques, incorporating modern web based technology. We are currently creating downloadable, ADA compliant podcasts and flash video of lab techniques and demonstrations for students to use while preparing for class. This approach has been very popular with our students, and successful in preparing them for this laboratory based class. In the first two weeks after release of our initial podcast, we were rated at #4 in the Science and Medicine category on Itunes, and because of our continued popularity, we are starting to create additional podcasts for our General and Organic classes.
