Electronic response systems have changed the dynamics of teaching and learning especially in large lecture classrooms. This powerful formative assessment tool facilitates active engagement and peer collaboration, and challenges instructors to develop pedagogically effective questions that address learning deficiencies and misconceptions. This presentation will address lessons learned from general chemistry concept surveys that dictated the development and use of new conceptual questions to assess mastery of molecular visualization skills.
