Vanadium compounds are known to alleviate the symptoms of diabetes through currently unknown pathways. One proposed pathway involves redox modulation in the cell by the vanadium. Since glutathione (GSH), which contains a thiol, is the primary cellular antioxidant found in mammalian cells studies, investigations of vanadium thiolate complexes are warranted. Vanadium(IV) and (V) complexes of aminothiols were prepared and characterized both in solution and in the solid-state.
