Caffeine levels in “energy” drinks are being determined to assess if levels of caffeine are consistent with labeling and if levels are consistent between samples that come from different batches of product. Methods include HPLC, solvent microextraction with gas chromatography/mass spectrometry, and a solid-phase microextraction with fused silica fibers utilizing GC/MS. Methods will be compared with standards for accuracy and for ease of testing.
