Laboratory program in forensic chemistry for nonscience majors

CHED 126

We require our students to take a laboratory science course as a part of their liberal arts studies. Traditionally these courses have been “Introduction to Chemistry” (or Physics or Biology). Recently we have added a Forensic Chemistry option, with lab. The lab meets once a week for three hours, with laboratory experiments based on activities performed by forensic chemists. These include testing for substances (such as blood, arsenic, carbon monoxide, “marijuana”), measuring physical properties (density of glass), determining amounts (titration, spectrophotometry), and other activities (including a visit to the local forensic laboratory). This poster will provide further details about the lab program.
