The Langmuir SAACS Chapter at Hartwick College struggled for years to find a fundraiser that (1) encourages participation by all club members, (2) involves hands-on chemistry, and (3) increases club visibility on campus and in the local community. In 2003, the club learned how to make soap and started the surprisingly successful “Add H–O–H” soap-making fundraiser. Members of the club will present stories of our successes (and failures), how to make soap and use it as a fundraiser, how the college and chemistry department supports our fundraising efforts, and how the club uses the money raised to support club activities.
