Fluorescent 4-acylpyrazolone ligands for metal ion detection

We report the design, synthesis and testing of ligands for the fluorescent detection of metal ions. Our ligands are based on 4-acylpyrazolones. Molecular modeling was used to determine metal ion interactions and to aid in the design of the ligands. Synthetic methodology included acylation of commercially available pyrazolones. Additionally, we have explored the fluorescence of the metal ion-ligand complex.
