| As an Assistant Professor at a research-oriented institution, one of my challenges was starting my own research program. In principle, I could have used my Ph.D. mentor's research program as a model. However, we are at very different places in our careers, so our challenges are different. In this talk I will present my evolution from a graduate student researcher to an independent chemical education researcher. In doing so, I will describe the following aspects of establishing a research program: choosing a primary audience for my work, finding an overarching theme, defining the individual problems, and developing these problems into researchable projects. |
