| Cold Re(CO)3+ has been of interest as a model for 99mTc(CO)3+ based diagnostic imaging agents. In addition to use as a model for technetium, 186,188Re are beta particle emitting isotopes that have potential for use as radiotherapeutic agents. [Re(CO)3(H2O)3]X is an effective source of the Re(CO)3(H2O)3+ cation, an attractive reagent for the development of clinically relevant compounds. Compounds containing a bromide counterion pose physiological toxic threats. We will report the preparation of aqueous solutions of [Re(CO)3(H2O)3]PF6 along with a method to accurately determine the solution concentration. Several rhenium tripodal ligands have been synthesized and studied to examine the rate of complex formation and resistance to decomposition. We will report the preliminary results of our research with the rhenium tris(imidazolyl)methoxymethane (timm) complex as a candidate for clinical use. The syntheses of timm compounds, stability tests, spectroscopic results and a crystal structure will be reported. |
