| We recently reported a successful methodology for constructing spirocyclic ether, 3-methyl-4-phenyl-1-oxaspiro[4.5]decane, via the photodecomposition reaction of a cyclic derivative of Barton PTOC ester in the presence of allyl alcohol. An obvious extension of this result is to determine if spirocyclic amine, 3-methyl-4-phenyl-1-azaspiro[4.5]decane, may also be constructed in the same manner. A five step synthetic sequence to produce the cyclic ester derivative as well as its photodecomposition reaction in the presence of allyl amine will be presented. We will also discuss our on-going efforts in synthesizing other cyclic ester derivatives and their photodecomposition reactions in the presence of selected amines. |
