Particles and kids: How does understanding develop?

We present data from four studies probing students' beliefs about the particulate nature of matter (PNM). We interviewed elementary, middle school, and university students, as well Turkish middle school students. From these data we begin to see how & when students develop their understanding of PNM and the teaching implications of those understandings.
