| This presentation will discuss the summer of 1985 that was spent working with Jim Sullivan at Argonne National Laboratory, and the influence of Sully on the life of a recent college graduate in chemistry. Through this summer undergraduate research experience, I worked with Ed and Karen Deutsch performing experiments on outer sphere electron transfer reactions between dioxoactinide(VI) ions and technetium and rhenium complexes. This experience introduced me to the world of nuclear medicine research, where I have spent over 17 years since graduating with a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Florida State University. A discussion of how Sully shaped young minds with his keen intellect, straight talk, and fatherly advice will be presented, as well as his influence on my career and life paths. |
