CHED 1344 |
| Chemistry is widely recognized as a growing and demanding field of scientific study in which visual demonstrations and hands' on experience can facilitate general understanding to audiences. High school students explored various topics such as movement of electrons, using the Meissner and piezoelectric effects. Duality of light was exhibited using a radiometer, and Young's slits experiment. These teaching techniques were evaluated using questionnaires after each demonstration. Highlights this year for the chapter included the annual Thanksgiving Turkey Basket Competition and the Environmental Undergraduate Research Synopsis at Bridgewater University. During National Chemistry Week, affiliates volunteered at the Academic Expo to promote student's interest in chemistry. A Conkers competition was also held to promote the uses of natural products. The RWU chapter of ACS was proud to host renowned chemists Dr. Bonnie Bassler from Princeton University and Dr. Carolyn Bertozzi from UC Berkeley as part of this year's Distinguished Lecture Series. |
