Ten year process: From inorganic chemistry to chemical education

CHED 30

Bob Blake, bob.blake@ttu.edu, Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry, Texas Tech University, Lubbock, TX 79409-1061
Research in Inorganic Chemistry and research in Chemical Education have broad similarities, but the differences are great enough to make the transition from one discipline to another a significant one. Institutional cooperation for Chemical Education research is essential for many projects and can be difficult to gather in a traditional department. The lengthy process of starting Chemical Education research in a traditional department, developing a program based on successful results and institutionalizing the program will be outlined. The data from recent projects to improve student performance in General Chemistry will also be presented.
