Throughout the 2006-2007 academic year, the Frostburg State University chapter of SAACS broadened its program to include more activities not only for its members, but for the community as well. With 20 members out of 39 registered as Student Affiliates with the National ACS, our chapter is proud to boast a high membership percentage. Our activities included school demonstrations as well as demonstrations during National Chemistry Week and Earth Day. We also increased our numbers of volunteer activities by participating with other FSU organizations in Frostburg's Day of Caring and Sharing, Thanksgiving Adopt-A-Family, and the Toys for Happiness Toy Drive. Throughout the year, we also co-sponsored guest speakers with the Western Maryland Local Section to provide our students with a variety of informational sessions ranging from green chemistry to toxicological chemistry. The FSU chapter of SAACS is honored to be a recipient of the “Commendable Achievement Award” by the ACS for our activities this year.
