Polyhedral Oligomeric Silsesquioxane (POSS) fluoride salts, with the fluoride ion encapsulated within the POSS cage have been produced. These compounds have been produced in high yield from tetramethylammonium fluoride and pre-formed POSS cages, including those with styryl, phenyl, vinyl, and fluoroalkyl functionality. The synthesis, properties, and differences between these and typical POSS cages, as well as potential applications for these compounds will be discussed.
