Science on Saturdays (SOS) Education Program is specifically designed for under-served and underrepresented (in STEM disciplines) K-8 students in Macon, Montgomery, Bullock, Lee, Lowndes, and Russell counties in Alabama. The mission of the program is to (1) create a positive, hands-on learning environment, (2) develop and foster an appreciation of chemistry, (3) expose students to the many careers involving chemistry, and (4) to inspire these students to pursue careers in chemistry. A year after its inception, the SOS Education Program continues to impact the chemistry profession by stimulating scientific inquiry in the minds of under-served and underrepresented K-8 students.
