The behaviors of the 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride under various pressures were reported in this study. It has been well known that two isomers (gauche-anti and anti-anti forms in C7-C8) of [Bmim] cation coexist in the ionic liquid state. When the pressure was elevated to 0.9 GPa, the contribution of GA conformer decreases in intensity. Above 1.5GPa, a new high pressure phase is formed. Afterward, the thermodynamically stable form (AA) under ambient pressure is switched to metastable.
