The American Chemical Society - Student Affiliate of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock brings together individuals interested in all fields of chemistry. The organization meets the last Thursday of every month to discuss current events and to listen to a variety of speakers specializing in different areas of chemistry. The ACS officers sell goggles and organic model kits to raise money to fund outreach activities. Affiliates recruit new members by attending campus hosted orientations. ACS strives to introduce young minds to chemistry early by visiting local schools to demonstrate how teachers can conduct safe and effective chemical experiments for their students. This year, an AP Chemistry class will be visiting UALR to watch chemistry demonstrations. Members celebrate National Chemistry Week by drawing molecules on campus sidewalks and constructing a giant periodic table of cupcakes. Each year, ACS officers present posters at the ACS national meetings outlining chapter activities.
